Are you using Chrome as Your Internet Browser?

I’ve been using Chrome for a long time simply because it is so much faster than either IE or Firefox.  Here are 6 other reasons that I had never even thought about written by someone else:

The more you use Chrome, the more you will like it. It’s like getting a new application that improves your PC but doesn’t require you to change the way you work.

Here are 7 reasons you should drop your current browser and switch to Chrome:

What is Creativity?

John Cleese says that  “Creativity is not a talent, it’s a way of operating.”

bright-ideaSo what is creativity?

To me, it is taking what’s in front of you and everybody else and making something new out of it.

It has been said that there is nothing new under the sun.  I don’t really believe that is totally true  but most new products and ideas are older ones that someone has seen or used and suddenly had an “ah-ha” moment.  New ideas are usually just the evolution of older ones.

Our own industry has evolved through the years.  What started as a gift that one neighbor takes to another evolved into gift baskets with the possibility of thousands of different themes, decorated with gifts and enhancements, and wrapped with cello or shrink wrap and topped with a bow.

Our industry, and every other one, will continue to evolve.  The creativity of you and everyone else in this industry will determine what its future will be.

Your own individual creativity will determine what your own business will look like and how successful it will be.

So, come on folks.  Put on those creative thinking caps and let’s help the gift business evolve in ways that we never thought possible.

And, if you want to read more about this myth we call talent, read this post.

Do You Have a Yahoo Email Account?

This week, I started getting spam from people I know who are using Yahoo email addresses. There’s nothing in them except a link to some site filled with nasty-ware I’m sure. This usually means their account has been broken into.

So… if you have a Yahoo email account, check on it now. Even if you don’t use it regularly – especially if you do not use it regularly, maybe it’s time to shut it down.

Actually, it’s a good idea to always be vigilant with all your email accounts.   If you do suspect that your account has been hacked (and this could happen with any email account — not just Yahoo), change your password and security question immediately.

New passwords should be at least six characters long and include at least one number, letter (combination of upper and lower cases) and special character ($, *, &, !, etc.). Make sure your new password is different from any other passwords you have used. Also, if you used the same password for other online accounts such as social media and financial services, change those passwords as well. We strongly advise you use different passwords for different social media accounts.

Business slows down a bit in the summer as people head away to take vacations. But that doesn’t mean you should flip the sign on the door to “closed,” pull out the bikinis and swim trunks and head to the beach until Labor Day. True, taking out some time to hang out with friends and family to enjoy the better weather is a great idea (check out suggestion No. 6 below). But, the more relaxed summer months are also a good time for company owners to step back and take steps to improve their businesses.

Here are six things most small business owners can do this summer to set themselves up for a profitable end to the year.

Why your traffic and sales have decreased!

Have you noticed a drastic drop in your traffic during the past week or so?   If you have, you may be a victim of Google’s latest Penguin 2 update.  Looks like, whether you like it or not, if you want to be on page one of Google, you’re going to have to create unique content and become social online.  Here is a great article about what Google was looking for and how you can overcome it.
